Cheesy Bacon Scones

1: In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

2: Stir in the chives and shredded cheese.

3: Grate or chop up the cold butter, ensuring it stays cold.

4: Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter to mix until it pinches together nicely.

5: In another bowl, whisk together the 2/3 cup buttermilk and egg yolk.

6: Pour this mixture over the flour mixture and gently mix until the dough is flaky.

7: Shape the dough into an 8-9 inch circle and cut it into 8 equal pieces.

8: Whisk together the 1 tbsp buttermilk and the leftover egg white, then brush it on top of the scones.

9: Optionally sprinkle flaky salt on top.

10: Refrigerate the scones while the oven preheats to 400°F.

11: Bake for 22-25 minutes until the tops are slightly golden brown.
